For full details, please read below.
What Are Cookies?
- Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website.
- This policy also governs similar technologies used to store or access information on your device, including pixels, tags, and browser features like "localStorage" and "sessionStorage".
- For simplicity, we will refer to all of these technologies as "Cookies."
- Certain features of the Service may also utilize browser-based storage mechanisms, including localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, or similar browser technologies, to temporarily maintain a cryptographically random browser identifier together with limited website interaction information for the purpose of supporting customer-configured chatbot functionality. Such browser-side information is intended to remain locally associated with the user's browser unless and until any consent required under applicable law is subsequently obtained and the Customer has configured the Service to transmit such information to ZipTier.
Purpose and Legal Basis for Cookie Use
- ZipTier currently uses cookies and similar technologies primarily for the following purposes:
- Strictly Necessary Cookies: Required to operate the Service and enable core functionality such as authentication, session continuity, fraud prevention, security, consent preference storage, load balancing, and payment checkout flows.
- Functional / Preference Cookies: Where enabled, these cookies remember user-selected settings such as language, region, or interface preferences.
- Advertising and Marketing Technologies: ZipTier may use non-essential cookies and similar technologies for advertising, marketing, conversion measurement, campaign attribution, audience measurement, audience creation, and, where enabled and permitted by applicable law, advertising or retargeting activities. These technologies may include Google advertising tags, the Meta Pixel, and the LinkedIn Insight Tag. Such technologies may collect or receive information relating to website visits, pages or URLs viewed, referring URLs, IP address, device and browser characteristics, timestamps, ad or click identifiers, conversion events, and other website interaction information, depending on the technology and configuration. ZipTier also uses Rewardful, which may set a first-party referral cookie, to attribute referred customer registrations and subscriptions to participating affiliates under the ZipTier Affiliate Program. Where required by applicable law, these technologies will be activated only after the user provides the required consent through our cookie consent mechanism.
- Analytics and Performance Cookies: ZipTier may use non-essential cookies and similar technologies for analytics, to understand website traffic, user interaction funnels, conversion events, and platform performance. Where enabled by the applicable Customer, the Service may also generate a cryptographically random browser identifier and temporarily associate limited website interaction information, including page visits, navigation sequence, timestamps, clickstream events, dwell time, or similar behavioural telemetry, with that identifier within the user's browser. Such functionality is intended to enhance chatbot conversation context, customer assistance, analytics, workflow execution, and related Service functionality requested by the Customer. Unless any consent required under applicable law is subsequently obtained and the Customer has configured the Service accordingly, such buffered telemetry is not intended to be transmitted to ZipTier and is designed to expire automatically after the applicable technical retention period. Where required by applicable law, analytics technologies will be activated only after the user provides the required consent.
- Where required by applicable law, non-essential cookies are deployed only after the user provides valid consent through our cookie banner.
- For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, processing of personal data via cookies relies on consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.
Categories of Cookies Used
Category | Purpose | Examples | How to Manage |
Strictly Necessary | Login, authentication, security, payment checkout, consent preferences, fraud prevention, session continuity and core Service functionality. | ZipTier, Stripe and other necessary Service technologies | These cookies cannot generally be disabled where they are strictly necessary for the requested Service. |
Functional / Preference | Remember language, region, interface settings or other user-selected preferences, where enabled. | ZipTier | Through cookie settings or browser controls, where available. |
Advertising and Marketing | Measure advertising performance, attribute conversions, understand interactions with our website, measure campaign effectiveness, create or measure advertising audiences and, where enabled and permitted by applicable law, support advertising or retargeting activities. Also attribute referred customer registrations and subscriptions to participating affiliates under the ZipTier Affiliate Program. | Google advertising tags; Meta Pixel; LinkedIn Insight Tag; Rewardful (referral and affiliate tracking) | Through the cookie consent banner/settings tool and other applicable opt-out mechanisms. Referral tracking is blocked on "Strictly Necessary" only; 90-day attribution cookie duration. |
Analytics & Performance | Understand website traffic, user interaction funnels, conversion events, and platform performance. Where enabled by the Customer, also temporarily associates website interaction information with a cryptographically random browser identifier pending any consent required under applicable law and subsequent chatbot interaction, to improve conversation context and requested Service functionality. | Google Analytics 4 (GA4); AWS RUM (cross-session tracking); ZipTier (temporary browser identifier / browser-side telemetry) | Blocked on "Strictly Necessary" only; manageable via cookie banner or footer settings. Stored for up to 14 months. The temporary browser identifier automatically expires (generally within 48 hours) unless transmitted following consent, browser settings, or Customer configuration. |
- Retention periods for advertising and marketing technologies may vary depending on the technology, provider, browser configuration, account settings, and the specific advertising or measurement functionality enabled. ZipTier does not represent that all advertising technologies use the same retention period. Where a specific cookie or similar technology has a defined retention period, the applicable cookie settings tool or cookie inventory may provide the relevant information.
- In general, session cookies are deleted when you close your browser, and persistent cookies are stored only for the indicative periods shown in the table above, for the applicable period specified in the cookie settings tool or cookie inventory and are then deleted or anonymized once they are no longer needed for the purposes described in this policy or to comply with legal obligations.
Third-party Cookies and Service Providers
- ZipTier may deploy third-party advertising and marketing technologies on its website and related online interfaces, including Google advertising tags, the Meta Pixel, and the LinkedIn Insight Tag. These technologies may use cookies, pixels, tags, scripts, identifiers, or similar technologies to collect or receive information about visitors and their interactions with the website.
- Depending on the technology and configuration, information collected or received through these advertising technologies may include IP address, device and browser information, pages or URLs viewed, referring URLs, timestamps, ad or click identifiers, conversion events, website interaction information, and other information relating to the visitor's interaction with the website. Certain technologies may also support audience creation, advertising measurement, conversion attribution or retargeting.
- The relevant third-party advertising platforms may process information collected through these technologies in accordance with their own applicable terms and privacy policies. Such third parties may act as independent controllers or otherwise process information in accordance with their respective legal roles and arrangements.
- The advertising and marketing technologies currently intended to be used by ZipTier include:
- Google: Google advertising tags may be used for advertising measurement, conversion tracking, campaign attribution and related advertising functionality.
- Meta: The Meta Pixel may be used for advertising measurement, conversion tracking, audience measurement, audience creation and, where enabled, retargeting and related advertising functionality.
- LinkedIn: The LinkedIn Insight Tag may be used for advertising measurement, conversion tracking, campaign reporting, audience measurement and, where enabled, website retargeting.
- Rewardful: Rewardful may use a first-party referral cookie to preserve referral information and attribute a subsequent registration or purchase to the relevant affiliate.
- Non-essential advertising and marketing technologies will not be activated where applicable law requires prior consent unless and until the required consent has been obtained. Where consent is withdrawn or an applicable opt-out is exercised, ZipTier will take reasonable technical steps to prevent further collection or sharing through the relevant non-essential advertising technologies, subject to technical limitations and applicable law.
- ZipTier may also engage other third-party service providers to support core Service functionality, including:
- Stripe – payment processing, fraud prevention and checkout security;
- Infrastructure Providers – secure hosting, content delivery, uptime and core technical operations; and
- Other carefully selected service providers as necessary to operate, secure and improve the Service.
- Where third parties process personal data through necessary Service functionality, they may act as processors, service providers, or independent controllers depending on the nature of the service and applicable law.
- ZipTier maintains commercially reasonable contractual, organizational and technical safeguards with material vendors where appropriate.
- ZipTier's standard configuration is capable of supporting an "essential cookies only" mode for customers or deployments requiring a stricter compliance posture.
Your Cookie Choices
- You can control cookies in several ways:
- Cookies consent banner: When you first visit the Service, you may be presented with a cookie consent banner that allows you to:
- Accept all cookies;
- Reject non-essential cookies;
- Customize cookie preference.
- For users in the EEA, UK, and other jurisdictions requiring consent, non-essential cookies and similar advertising or marketing technologies will not be set, accessed, or activated until you provide the required consent through the cookie banner or settings tool. Where only strictly necessary cookies are in use, no consent is required except where mandated by applicable law. Where the temporary browser-side telemetry functionality described in this Policy is configured in a manner that requires consent under applicable law, such functionality shall likewise remain subject to the applicable consent mechanism before any buffered information is transmitted to ZipTier.
- The options to "Accept all cookies" and "Reject non-essential cookies" are presented with equal prominence and are available on the first layer of the banner so that your choice is free and not influenced by design or defaults.
- You may withdraw your consent for non-essential cookies and similar technologies at any time by using the cookie settings link in the footer. Withdrawal of consent will stop further activation of non-essential advertising and marketing technologies, including the relevant advertising pixels or tags, and, where technically feasible, result in the removal of existing non-essential cookies set through our website on subsequent visits, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.
- Your preferences will be stored and can be modified at any time through the cookie settings link available in the website footer.
- Browser controls: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Visit your browser's help section for instructions. Blocking essential cookies may affect site functionality.
Consent and Data Protection Compliance
- ZipTier deploys cookies in accordance with applicable privacy laws including the GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy rules, CCPA/CPRA, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
- ZipTier's current standard configuration relies primarily on strictly necessary cookies. Non-essential cookies, where used, shall be subject to applicable consent requirements.
- Users may modify cookie choices through available settings tools where applicable.
- In respect of cookies used on ZipTier-owned websites and interfaces, ZipTier acts as Controller / Business / Data Fiduciary for related personal data processing.
- Where required by applicable law, ZipTier will provide mechanisms enabling users to withdraw consent to non-essential advertising and marketing technologies and to exercise applicable rights to opt out of the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising or targeted advertising. Where applicable law requires recognition of a valid opt-out preference signal, ZipTier will process such signal in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
